Fishing has been somewhat cold like the weather. The weather is starting to warm up though, which should get the fish biting. Therer are two big tournaments this weekend in the Jacksonville area, El Cheap Sheepshead, and the Redfish tour. So, expect a lot of boats on the water this weekend.
Redfish have been getting out in the skinny water to sun themselves. Trout have been finding deeper holes and settling in. Once you find one though, you can explect a lot more to be hanging out.

Sightcasting to reds on fly has really turned on with some warmer days
in Eastern Tampa Bay. Redfish up to 28" have been working shorelines
on rising tides in search of food. A well place crab or shrimp pattern
will get eaten just about every time. Tide level is critical. An
incoming tide at a level between +0.5 and +1.5 will allow to easily see
reds cruising and tailing. Another critical element is finding lee
shorelines. Wednesday was a stellar day for sightcasting with some of
the first real calm conditions of the Spring. When the wind is up,
finding lee shorelines with clear water will really help your chances
to fly cast reds. Among the patterns that did well this week were the
Lantham's Crab, the TK Special, Dorsey's Kwan, and Borski's Fur
Shrimp. The key is to let the fly settle and make a very small strip
when the fish approaches to mimic fleeing prey. Floating lines on 6-8
weight fly tackle got it done with flies being connected to 12 pound
tippets.
